Intro to the Project
In this project we interview people that we think have interesting stories to tell. We could interview anyone, from a total stranger, to one of your closest family members. The point of this project was to improve on our skills to interview someone. We mostly used story corp for inspiration in this project, we listened to a lot of interview that they had, and some people, like me, went on their site and used the questions that they suggested to start an interview with. I decided to interview my grandma, because I wanted to know more about my family's past.
To prepare ourselves for the interview we researched many things, listened to many stories or interview from story corp, had and listened to many practice interview. The things we researched were mostly background information. To be prepared for the interview, we had to research any topic that we thought had something to do with the interview, so in we can ask things with more depth. We also listened to many story corp interview, some were bad and some were good, we listened to know what to do and what not to do. What we did with the interview from story corp, we also did with the practice interviews that we watched Dr. P do, we saw the good things that we were supposed to do in an interview, and the bad things that we weren't supposed to do. Lastly we had to do some practice interviews with our classmates to prepare us for the actual interview with the person we chose.
We had the interview on the phone, so I was interviewing her on my phone and recording the whole thing in my laptop. Since I interviewed my grandma, I thought it wouldn't be awkward at all, except it ended up being super awkward in the beginning of the interview, but as it went on, the awkwardness went away, and it all started to feel natural. I was glad that I interviewed my grandma, because know I know way more than I knew before of my grandfather and uncle that past away, and about my dad's childhood.
In the interview outline we had to put all the topics that we talked about and the time that they started.
For the script outline we had to write the topics that we thought were the most important ones and write all of the dialouge in that topic.
The reason I chose to interview my grandma, Rosalinda Patino, was because I wanted to know more about my family's past, specifically about my grandpa and uncle that past away a few years ago. I wanted to know about my dad's relationship to his siblings, if it was similar to my relationship with my siblings, and how my grandparents met. I learned a lot about a lot of people that I didn't know before, for example, how my dad was the person who got my uncle into all the sports he did, and how my dad always encouraged him to be better. I also learned how my grandparents met and how my grandpa asked my grandpa for her hand in marriage. I feel very good about the interview that I did, I feel that I got all the information that I wanted, and that it wasn't as difficult as I expected it to be. Someone that I thought would also be perfect for an interview was my mom, because she is always telling stories, adn she is perfect on keeping a conversations going. I feel that if I ever get to interview her, it would come natural to both of us since we know each other so well.
